Parked side by side, Peterbilt’s most advanced trucks–its autonomous Model 579 test truck, the 2023 SuperTruck, and the battery electric Model 579EV day cab–were an impressive display of how quickly and far truck technology has advanced, even through two years of world-altering events.
The autonomous Model 579 on display was a next step in the truck’s evolution from the first time we saw it earlier this year and was pulled out of live testing in Texas to make its ATA debut. It would be a subjective call to say the SuperTruck 2 was the star of the Peterbilt booth given the pedigree that surrounded it, but it was definitely a focus as this was the first-look at the truck. Jake White, product marketing manager, Peterbilt, played the specs close to the chest but did share details about the hybrid Cummins powertrain. And then there was the Model 579EV day cab, which continues to see adoption as battery electric trucks tackle short-route applications.
