Welcome to a series of blog posts exploring what it takes to create a life-affirming future, and the practical steps we can take to make this happen. We will be looking at the concept of life affirming ESG investing, new ways of assessing organizations’ performance, and creating meaningful metrics to measure their success. We’ll also delve into the Life-affirming Model, which uses the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Awesome Anthropocene Goals (AAGs) to provide a framework for assessing ESG performance. Additionally, we’ll explore how to create trust-based certifications and credentials to ensure customers are making informed decisions, as well as the value of bottom-up peer-reviewed processes to verify good practices for people and the planet.

- Applying the Logic of Life to ESG: Can We Make it More Life-Affirming: This describes an innovative framework for making ESG investing more effective and impactful. The post also provides insight into the connection between ESG categories and the Sustainable Development Goals and how to create a life-affirming approach to ESG.
- Exploring the Life-Affirming Model: ESG Investment Through Stewardship, Wellness, and Fairness: This content can help to gain a better understanding of ESG investing and how it can be used to make a positive impact. The post provides practical steps for ensuring ESG investments are making a lasting and positive impact, and explores how to focus efforts at the community, city, and bioregional levels.
- ESG Demystified: A Guide to Life-affirming Decision Making: This post provides more about the Life-affirming Model and how it can be used to create a rating system for ESG that focuses on stewardship, wellness, and fairness. It also discusses how this model can be used further down the supply chain to help customers make more informed decisions.
- The Life-Affirming Model: Harnessing the Wisdom of Bioregional Societies: This covers the innovative approach taken by Regen Farmers Mutual to support verifying good practices for people and the planet. The post also explores the potential of bioregional societies to address current environmental and social issues and looks to the wisdom of First People of the bioregions to gain further insight.
- Life-Affirming Credentials: Trust Instruments and Beyond: This provides a view on the importance of trust in making life-affirming buying decisions. The post discusses trust as a “belief in another’s trustworthiness” and provides insight into how companies can create trust-based certifications and credentials that incorporate regenerative and sustainable models. It also explores the necessary technical tools, values, and principles for certifying and governing bodies.
I hope this series will provide readers with a better understanding of how to create a more life-affirming future. I also want to take the opportunity to thank the people I have either directly talked to, to refine some of my thinking, or those I have indirectly encountered through articles and research that has enabled me to form the insights shared in this series.
