Japan-based systems integrator Itochu Techno-Solutions (CTC) has used CyberLink's AI facial recognition engine, FaceMe, to develop a "vehicle inspection information system" for adoption by Toyota to improve vehicle quality management.
CyberLink said the vehicle inspection information system will help automakers ensure that only certified inspectors can inspect finished vehicles with zero-contact and high-precision facial recognition technology.
Toyota assistant manager Toshimitsu Imai pointed out that the company chose to adopt FaceMe because of its ability to perform facial recognition even when users are wearing masks. He said FaceMe can perform properly under bright factory lighting and inside dimly lit vehicles.
CTC division manager Matsunaga Kazutaka also noted that FaceMe adopts deep neural network AI technology and has the properties of quick speed and high accuracy in facial recognition. He said CTC is planning to extend the project to other factories in the future.
Meanwhile, CyberLink chairman Jau Huang said the FaceMe software development toolkit (SDK) brings world-class accuracy and anti-spoofing technology to CTC's vehicle inspection information system, which can make Toyota's quality control processes more convenient and productive while preventing infectious diseases inside factories.
Huang expects demand for such smart factory applications to continue to grow. Speaking at the investor conference in April, Huang suggested that the two main growth areas that CyberLink will focus on between 2022-2024 are expanding its creative product lines and expanding FaceMe applications.
According to CyberLink, FaceMe SDK achieved up to 99.73% TAR (true acceptance rate) in Visa Border 1:N investigation mode and 96.98% TAR in Wild 1E-5 photo mode in the 2021 Facial Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) conducted by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
FaceMe products can be deployed across several industries, including finance, healthcare, retail and security. CyberLink is scheduled to hold its shareholder meeting on June 21 to release its 2021 operating reports.
